Pastor Anthony Pierre-Louis
Luke 18:34-43 (MSG)
Jesus stopped and ordered him to be brought over. When he had come near, Jesus asked, “What do you want from me?” He said, “Master, I want to see again.”
While traveling outside of Jericho, Jesus had an encounter with a blind man. The blind man heard all of the commotion and asked the crowd what was going on. The crowd told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. The blind man yelled, “Son of David have mercy on me!” Jesus called for the man to be brought over to Him, then He asked the blind man, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man replied, “Master, I want to see again.”
His response was an indication that the man was not born blind but at some point he lost his eyesight. Such is the case with us, many of us, (including myself) have had visions of being a great follower of Christ, husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter until the enemy came in and robbed us of our vision, so much so that we no longer see ourselves the way the Lord sees us. Jesus wants us to see again.
There are a few takeaways that I noticed in within the text:
1. The man knew who Jesus was because he called Him, Son of David. This means that the man not only knew that Jesus was a descended of King David, he knew that Jesus was the promised Messiah.
2. He shouted out! The blind man had a desperate need and knew that he had to do whatever it took to get Jesus’s attention, so he cried out.
3. He answered Jesus’s question, “What do you want Me to do for you?” (He replied) “Master, I want to see again.
The beauty found within the text is not the fact that the man was able to physically see again, but the beauty found within the text was the fact that the first person the man saw once he received his vision back was Jesus. Such is the case with the fast that we are on. If you have lost your vision, spiritually speaking, allow this time to be a time where you:
1. Get to know Jesus the Messiah
2. Cry out to Him (in prayer, worship and devotion)
3. Let Him know that you want to “See (HIM) Again.”
I believe, if this is the cry of our heart, at some point during this fast we will get to see Jesus!
