Wednesday, January 7 Devo:

YOU KNOW MY NAME

Melissa Welch

Psalm 139:1-4 states “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me… Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.”

We have all heard the phrase nothing surprises God and most of the time that can be taken as He knows our choices before we make them. But I wanted to share today that God knows your heart, your thoughts, your desires, even before you share them with Him. He isn’t distant even when we think He is. He isn’t turned off by our fears or shortcomings but the opposite. His love for us is steadfast.

We see in John 4:1-26 when Jesus is talking to the woman at the well. He saw her yes, but He knew her. This encounter shows that being known by Him can be healing. It can be life-changing if we acknowledge Him.

The thought of someone knowing us fully can be unsettling to say the least but also can give you a peace. He chooses us, even when we doubt. He chooses us, even when we succeed. He chooses us, through every high and every low. We are never overlooked or abandoned. When we feel alone He is walking with us. And when we cry out He is already listening.

Today I want you to walk with the authority that He knows your name. He knows your heart. And he chooses you to live out His mission. If you are embarking on this fast and saying to yourself, What am I doing? I want you to open yourself up to Him and let Him draw you closer. Closer to His peace, closer to His presence and closer to His glory.
